Sun-Meter is Daylighting System’s proprietary metering module that can be added to our lighting control unit to measure the amount of light generated by the natural daylighting system and consumed by the customer. Sun-Meter turns sunlight into a commodity similar to electricity. Similar to a Power Purchase Agreement for photovoltaic systems, a Sun-Meter Agreement allows the contractor to install a component daylighting system with no upfront charge to the client, and subsequently be reimbursed through monthly compensation based upon their utility savings. The Sun-Meter module measures the daylight produced by the system which automatically turns off the electric lights. The savings in reduced electricity use are then used to pay for the installation of the component daylighting fixtures. This allows customers like school districts, which may not have any budget for capital expenses but always have budgets for utilities, to fund the installation of component daylighting with no up front costs. Once the system is paid for, generally in 3 to 6 years, the utility savings are fully realized by the customer.
