"Commercial daylighting is the practice of introducing adequate well diffused natural daylight into interior spaces to allow the electric lighting to be turned off or partially off, during daylight hours. The daylighting technologies discussed here represent top level (roof top) mounted systems and do not include other passive technologies such as windows or clerestories.
Design criteria generally requires a daylighting unit (system) to be more than a typical skylight and should include at a minimum a high transmittance skylight, reflective light well and interior light diffuser, and that lighting efficiency be achieved without increasing heat load (heat gain) or allowing excessive heat loss (winter months).
As a solar technology, daylighting is the most cost efficient and available of all solar technologies. Component manufacturing in Arizona assures ongoing supply with no reliance of foreign or even out of state supply chains. Project engineering and installation is relatively simple compared to other solar technologies."
